This mini toolkit presents tried-and-tested activities designed to foster communication skills in youth settings. These methods were implemented during an international Erasmus+ project and are suitable for non-formal education, youth exchanges, and training events.<\/p>

<\/div>

1. Non-Verbal Communication: The Silent Art of Connection<\/strong><\/p>

Objective:<\/strong> Raise awareness of the power of body language and silent interaction.<\/p>

Duration:<\/strong> 90\u2013120 minutes
Materials:<\/strong> Pens (1 per pair), A4 papers, open space<\/p>

Activities:<\/strong><\/p>

  • Posture Walk<\/em>: Participants walk with closed body language, gradually opening up. Emphasizes how posture affects perception.<\/p><\/li>

  • Pen Balance<\/em>: Pairs hold a pen between their palms and navigate a space without dropping it. Fosters coordination and empathy.<\/p><\/li>

  • Mime Chain<\/em>: Silent “telephone” game where a mime is passed down a line. Highlights how meaning can get lost in transmission.<\/p><\/li>

  • Silent Theater<\/em>: Groups mime scenes like “on a beach” or “in a restaurant.” One group performs; the other guesses. Adds surprises to observe adaptability and group communication.<\/p><\/li><\/ul>

    2. Non-Violent Communication (NVC) Workshop<\/strong><\/p>

    Objective:<\/strong> Teach respectful and compassionate expression using NVC methodology.<\/p>

    Duration:<\/strong> 90 minutes
    Materials:<\/strong> Presentation slides, flipcharts, markers<\/p>

    Structure:<\/strong><\/p>

    • Intro to NVC<\/em>: Purpose and benefits of NVC<\/p><\/li>

    • Theory Blocks<\/em>:<\/p>

      • Observation vs. Evaluation<\/p><\/li>

      • Feelings vs. Thoughts<\/p><\/li>

      • Needs vs. Strategies<\/p><\/li>

      • Requests vs. Demands<\/p><\/li><\/ul><\/li>

      • Practical Application<\/em>: Reflect on personal situations, reframe using NVC principles<\/p><\/li>

      • Role Play<\/em>: Practise handling real-life dialogue scenarios using NVC steps<\/p><\/li><\/ul>

        3. Trust Labyrinth<\/strong><\/p>

        Objective:<\/strong> Build mutual trust and connection through sensory experience<\/p>

        Duration:<\/strong> 60 minutes
        Materials:<\/strong> Blindfolds, calm music, safe space<\/p>

        Activity:<\/strong> Participants guide one another through a “labyrinth” with eyes closed, using only touch. Reflection follows on vulnerability and support.<\/p>

        4. The Last Refuge (Debate Simulation Game)<\/strong><\/p>

        Objective:<\/strong> Develop persuasive speaking, empathy, and group decision-making<\/p>

        Duration:<\/strong> 90 minutes
        Materials:<\/strong> Role cards, scenario sheet<\/p>

        Scenario:<\/strong> In a post-apocalyptic future, 10 characters must debate who gets to survive in a bunker with only 4 available spots. Participants reflect on values, ethics, and group negotiation.<\/p>

        5. Intercultural Dice Game<\/strong><\/p>

        Objective:<\/strong> Train memory, reactivity, and intercultural collaboration in a playful format<\/p>

        Duration:<\/strong> 30 minutes
        Materials:<\/strong> Dice, action cards, chips<\/p>

        Instructions:<\/strong><\/p>

        • Players perform actions based on dice rolls.<\/p><\/li>

        • Rules are memorized and removed; communication becomes non-verbal.<\/p><\/li>

        • Chips are exchanged for speed. Encourages adaptation and fun challenge under changing rules.<\/p><\/li><\/ul>

          • Alternate active and reflective exercises.<\/p><\/li>

          • Ensure daily feedback and guided reflection.<\/p><\/li>

          • Adjust complexity to suit group maturity and language level.<\/p><\/li>
